The Gathering at Signal Mountain

Noted pollster George Barna states that America’s youth are largely unfamiliar with the Bible’s basic teachings, inviting a host of social and personal troubles.

Five in ten students have had little or no exposure to the wisdom and knowledge of the Bible. “God helps those who help themselves” is the most widely known Bible verse among churchgoing teens, though it appears nowhere in the Bible. Eight in ten people cannot say who preached the Sermon on the Mount.

You may be saying to yourself, “These statistics can’t possibly be real, not in Chattanooga, not on Signal Mountain.”  But statistics like these are real in our nation and in our town.

For this reason, many concerned Signal Mountain churches have signed onto a voluntary initiative to rally around a special opportunity to invest in the community.

Vision:

  • Encourage prayer on behalf of the students, teachers, and schools of Signal Mountain
  • Build community-based support for funding Bible history classes at SMMHS
  • As a gift to the inner-city, provide an equal amount of funding for Bible history classes at Howard School of Academics & Technology.

Event:

On Sunday, September 20, 2009, friends are gathering at the Signal Mountain Middle/High School gymnasium for a meal, time of prayer and to show support for our public school students.

  • Sunday, September 20, 2009, 6:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M.
  • Dinner is complimentary
  • Child care is provided. At the conclusion of dinner, Young Life will provide a program in the middle school gymnasium for kindergarten – 5th grade kids.
