Historic Documents

No book has influenced Western Civilization like the Bible. According to the The New Dictionary of Cultural Literacy - What Every American Needs to Know, the authors say, "The Bible, the holy book of Judaism and Christianity, is the most widely known book in the English-speaking world. No one in the English-speaking world can be considered literate without a basic knowledge of the Bible."

There was a secular study done by the American Political Science Review on the political documents of the Founding Era, which was 1760-1805. This study found that 94% of the documents that went into the Founding Era were based on the Bible, and of that 34% of the contents were direct quotations from the Bible.

Not every document included here references the Bible or biblical themes and principles, but they are considered some of the most influential documents in world and U.S. history.
