Word from the President

Meet Bible in the Schools New President

As a friend and partner, I want to make you aware of an important transition taking place with Bible in the Schools.

Doug Stromberg has been our president for six years. Four years ago he contracted Transverse Myelitis, a rare neurological disease. Though faithful in caring out his responsibilities, last fall Doug recommended to the Board that a change in leadership take place because of his physical limitations.

I am pleased to inform you that the Board approved the appointment of Ralph Mohney, Jr. as the new president of Bible in the Schools.

Ralph is a long-time resident of Chattanooga and knows the uniqueness of the city. He and his wife Jackie live in Soddy-Daisy, and have one grown child (married, in Atlanta) and one child in college. They are very active and faithful at Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church, where he serves as an Elder.

Ralph took early retirement from Unum where he was a member of senior management, and has since worked for the company in an advisory capacity for several years. He is a graduate of Baylor School, the University of North Carolina (B.A., 1974), and Emory University (M.B.A.). He has a love for the Bible, and a deep appreciation also for the work of Bible in the Schools—his father, Ralph Mohney, Sr., served on our board for several years.

In conjunction with Ralph’s appointment, Doug Stromberg was named to a new position of Vice-President for Strategic Initiatives where he will assume a reduced and more manageable work load while continuing to contribute his many gifts and talents to the ongoing success of Bible in the Schools.

I hope that you will join me in warmly welcoming Ralph to his new position and in expressing appreciation to Doug for his long and continued service to Bible in the Schools.

Sincerely yours,

L. B. Austin III
Board Chairman
